The third step in the series is to make use of biodegradable and reusable tableware and reduce the use of disposables and plastic during Diwali parties and get togethers.

Lets go Organic, this Deepawali!
Diwali brings with it festivities and celebrations, time to adorn our homes with dazzling new things and give them a fresh and bright look. Rangoli is the art of creating attractive designs using fresh flowers or powder.
The fourth step in the series is to circumvent the use of chemical based rangoli colours and make maximum use of natural colours and dyes like rice flour, turmeric powder, Kumkum, colorful grains, flower petals that are biodegradable and ecofriendly.

Diwali is the festival of lights! We all love to decorate our homes with different types of colourful lights.
The fifth step in the series is to brighten up our homes with beautiful, colourful and non-hazardous LED lights and conserve energy.
LEDs use only a fraction of the energy as compared to incandescent light bulbs and are more effective, versatile and last longer

The sixth step in the series is to celebrate a more fulfilling Diwali this year by indulging in some kind act of ‘giving’ by donating sweets and other things with the needy and not so fortunate.
Gifts needn’t be big but thoughtful!!

With the passage of years, we have slowly drifted away from the true spirit of Deepawali. The modern day Diwali majorly revolves around fireworks and lights.
May this Diwali enlighten our hearts with the light that empowers us to commit to great deeds that in some way make the world around us a better place.
The seventh step in the series is to fill our homes with lights and diyas and not with smoke, fumes and noise.
Lets have a heart for our elderly, pets and strays.
Save them from the noise of firecrackers always.

Apart from the staple lantern, lamps and fairy lights, Diwali decoration entails a lot of things that end up being ‘Use and Throw’.
The eighth step in the series is that instead of using decorations made of plastic and non biodegradable materials that only add to the landfills, lets try reusing old utensils or fabrics to make some interesting DIY decorations.
With Retro being the in-thing, it will add a unique touch while being more personal and homely.

This Deepawali, surprise everyone by making a healthy switch. Instead of sharing and eating unhealthy food, switch to nuts, millets and other healthier version of sweets and savouries.
Lets replace sugar with jaggery or dates and give a healthy twist to home made goodies.
